The competition that will award the best digital service in public libraries as part of the 8th National Congress of Public Libraries is organised with the collaboration of SEDIC (Spanish Society for Scientific Information and Documentation).

PURPOSE

The purpose of the competition is to award prizes for the digital services offered by public libraries (those that are dependent on any of the public administrations) that are offered to citizens openly and freely, for example:

  • Digital reading clubs
  • Virtual exhibitions
  • Virtual visits
  • Literary routes
  • Virtual reading guides
  • Digital information and reference services
  • Services that offer online training
  • Applications
  • Etc…

Each institution can only submit a single project

PRIZE CATEGORIES

The Prize will have 3 categories:

  • Libraries in towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants
  • Libraries in towns with between 5,000 and 100,000 inhabitants
  • Libraries in towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

In order to assess the proposals, the following criteria will be taken into account, and in this order:

  1. Usefulness for users
  2. Technological innovation
  3. Technical difficulty
  4. Effort made by the library in relation to available resources
PRESENTATION OF PROJECTS

In order to be eligible for the Prize it is necessary to present a description of the project to the Secretariat of the Congress via its email address (), which should include the following sections:

  • URL of the project or service, or a download link for the application
  • Category that project is competing in
  • Descriptive report that includes:
    • Summary or synthesis of the project
    • Objective and results of the project
    • Work team: names, job function and assigned roles
THE AWARD

The prize will consist of online training for the library staff for 2017. Specifically, this training consists of 5 licences for attending a course given by SEDIC and another 5 for a course offered by the Sub-directorate General of Library Coordination, distributed as follows between the 3 categories:

  • Libraries in towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants. 2 SEDIC licences + 2 licences from the Sub-directorate General of Library Coordination
  • Libraries in towns with between 5,000 and 100,00 inhabitants. 2 SEDIC licences + 2 licences from the Sub-directorate General of Library Coordination
  • Libraries in towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants.  1 SEDIC licence + 1 licence from the Sub-directorate General of Library Coordination
JURY

The jury will be comprise of 6 members of the Scientific Committee of the 8th National Congress of Public Libraries. A representative of the Sub-directorate General of Library Coordination will act as Secretary, with a voice and without a vote.

The Scientific Committee of the 8th National Congress of Public Libraries reserves the right to resolve any queries and incidents that may arise from the carrying out of this call for submissions anything relating to, or that has not been covered by these terms and conditions.

SUBMISSION PERIOD

The period for submitting applications will end on 30 September 2016

PRIZE GIVING

The prizes for the different categories will be awarded at the 8th National Congress of Public Libraries, which will take place in Toledo on 16 and 17 November 2016.
